"When we lost the tree we lost a piece of history, and it is comforting to have a little bit of it preserved in such a well crafted object.
Margaret Taylor, Manager, Pearl S. Buck Homestead - 1999
Custom made guestbook stand at the Pearl S. Buck Homestead

This ash and mulberry guestbook stand was custom made by Bob Hoffa for the Pearl S. Buck Homestead in Hillsboro, WV. The mulberry was salvaged from a Chinese Mulberry brought from China and planted by Ms. Buck's parents in the early 1900s.

The tree grew three large trunks which slowly began to split apart in the mid 1990s. Despite efforts to save the tree, it split and fell in late 1997.

Price for a guestbook stand like this one begin at $295. Call with your specifications for a quote.

Careful selection of wood plays an important part in determining the quality of custom furniture. For the top panels and foot accents, Curly Ash was chosen to complement the Chinese Mulberry.

These two woods contrast each other both in color and in grain. The curl in the ash creates the appearance of small high contrast rectangular blocks, while the mulberry's gently wavy grain is more subtle.
